Black Girl Sunscreen is a Miami-based Black woman-owned brand specializing in cruelty-free products designed for melanated skin tones.

I’ll be honest, I was not a sunscreen gal. Yes, yes, I know anyone can get skin cancer, but my love of the sun and my fear of a white cast on my skin exceeded any health concerns. But then, I traveled to sunny Napa Valley for a week and realized…I needed some skin protection. This sunscreen saved my skin during that hot summer week, and I was even able to use it on my face as a kind of primer for my makeup without worry. It wasn’t greasy or heavy during wear, and definitely didn’t leave any cast or residue after application. Plus, it also helped that my best friend (much lighter complexion than mine) had also packed her Black Girl Sunscreen, too, and raved about it to me before I even tried it. Of course, it’s not only for women of color, but works for all skin types and can be used by everyone!

Promising review: “I know as women of color we worry about that ashy/white cast type of look when we put on sunscreen or looking oily, but this sunscreen doesn’t cause either one of those things to happen. It blends into the skin very well immediately, it doesn’t have that sterling sunscreen smell, and a little goes a very long way. I highly recommend!” —Kayla

Get it from Target for $15.99, Black Girl Sunscreen for $10.99+ (available in two sizes) or Amazon for $9.99.
