Margo Price Announces New Alubm ‘Hard Headed Woman’

Margo Price is digging deep into her country music foundations on her new album, Hard Headed Woman, set to release Aug. 29 via Loma Vista Recordings. The project, recorded at Nashville’s RCA Studio A with producer Matt Ross-Spang, marks the first album Price has recorded in Nashville, a city she has called home for two decades.

Known for songs such as “Pay Gap” and “Hurtin’ (On the Bottle),” Price continues issuing songs that are both personal but also songs that speak to the heartaches and concerns of those around her. The new project also features duets with Tyler Childers on “Love Me Like You Used to Do” and Jesse Welles on “Don’t Wake Me Up.”

The title of the album’s first release, “Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down,” was inspired by a similar line from Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, and was co-written with Jeremy Ivey, Rodney Crowell and the late Kris Kristofferson (who famously whispered the phrase to Sinead O’Connor when she was booed off stage at a 1992 concert).

“I always hope to do like Johnny Cash did, which is speak up for the common man and woman,” Price said of the song in a statement. “But there have been so many threats and anger and vitriol over the years, when I am only coming from a place of love. So I made the decision to rebuild everything from the ground up. I hope this album inspires people to be fearless and take chances and just be unabashedly themselves, in a culture that tries as hard as it can to beat us into all being the same.”
