In 2023, Donald Glover invited GQ to his property in Ojai, California, home to a “sprawling farm” and the future headquarters of Gilga, which the magazine described as his new “production company/incubator/cultural library.”
“Gilga is like Erewhon for culture,” Glover told GQ cover writer Mark Anthony Green (who went on to direct A24’s Opus starring Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich). “I want to work with the best people in every medium. To work toward sustainable output.”
Some of that output is freshly on display in a new collaboration with Moncler. Per the luxury fashion brand, the two teamed up to launch Moncler x Gilga Farm designed by Glover, a line that reimagines “an elevated outdoor wear collection inspired by Gilga Farm where mountain heritage meets Californian orange groves.”
“Functionality is key — it’s something that connects the world of Gilga and Moncler, we both create for real-world usefulness,” said Glover in a statement as the creative multi-hyphenate and veteran creator adds fashion designer to his résumé. “The sleeping bag is one of the first products Moncler ever made, which inspired our sleeping bag jacket, but also led to a collection of summer fits grounded in real value.”
As Glover mentioned, the sleeping bag jacket is among the range’s offerings alongside other designs like cloud-like down jackets, quilted vests, a heavy suede jacket in burnt orange with a cartoon-style graphic, lightweight nylon ripstop windbreakers, gardening hats and sturdy sandals. Said to be “geared towards summertime,” the fabrics Glover used for the designs include lightweight options like cottons, technical linen canvas and wool-cashmere knits in sun-washed pinks, creams, oranges and blues. An orange, a significant reflection of the Gilga aesthetic, appears on the collection as a logo while the Monduck, Moncler’s signature mascot, also gets reinterpreted as a farmer.
