Jeremy Allen White Got More Texts About Springsteen Than ‘The Bear’

Jeremy Allen White has been recognized for playing protagonist Carmy for four seasons now on FX’s Emmy-winning series The Bear. But when he debuted his transformation into Bruce Springsteen for the upcoming biopic on the iconic artist, White broke the internet. And then it damn near broke his cell phone.

The Deliver Me From Nowhere trailer that dropped on June 18 marked White’s debut as Springsteen. White does his own singing in the 20th Century Studios biopic from writer-director Scott Cooper, which focuses on the making of Springsteen’s 1982 Nebraska, one of the most acclaimed albums of all time.

In the trailer (below), White rocks out as the Boss and says of the deeply personal album, “Don’t need to be perfect. I want it to feel like I’m in the room by myself.” Deliver Me From Nowhere hits theaters Oct. 24.

“Getting that out, it was so much pressure,” the actor told Jimmy Fallon on Thursday’s Tonight Show. “You’re playing a real person — nevermind Bruce Springsteen — and I was really touched [when] the trailer came out. I had more texts than when I blacked out and won that Golden Globe [for The Bear],” he told Fallon.

“I didn’t realize trailers were that big of a thing,” he added.

The Bear, meanwhile, has won 21 Emmys and five Globes, and set a new record with the 2024 Emmys for the most nominations in a single year for a comedy. The show’s category classification, however, has become a source of contention within the industry, with many critics arguing that the series should not be classified as a comedy.

The series from creator Christopher Storer released its fourth season on Wednesday without much promotion ahead of the buzzy show’s release date, and with limited screeners for the press. During his visit to Fallon, the pair talked briefly about the show’s return and, of course, did not talk any spoilers.

“It is rare to not have producers and major castmembers made available to the press ahead of a new season — and exceedingly rare during awards campaign season,” explained The Hollywood Reporter‘s TV Editor Tony Maglio in a recent column. “FX won the most Emmys of any network in 2024, so it’s not exactly amateur hour for the brand; they known what they’re doing and they clearly do it well.”

THR‘s TV critic Angie Han, meanwhile, said of the new season in her review that “the fourth season ends on a note that could represent the end of everything, or a pivot toward a less Carmy-centric direction, or just a brief pause before business resumes as usual.”
