Paul Simon has canceled two Philadelphia concerts set for this weekend due to chronic and intense back pain.

The news was announced to the singer’s official Instagram account Saturday. There, a full statement was released that explained Simon “regretfully” had to cancel the shows and was set to undergo a “minor surgical procedure” in the coming days.

“Regretfully, Paul Simon must cancel two shows tonight June 28 and tomorrow night June 29 – at Philadelphia’s Academy of Music,” the statement read. “Paul has been struggling with chronic and intense back pain. Today it became unmanageable and demands immediate attention.”

The statement, too, noted that it’s uncertain if Simon will be able to reschedule Saturday and Sunday’s performances. However, the post indicated that the Grammy winner hopes to make up the canceled Philadelphia shows and complete the rest of his A Quiet Celebration Tour that kicked off in early April.

“Unfortunately we have to cancel these shows at this time, as we don’t have the ability to reschedule them,” the post read. “However, we are hopeful after this minor surgical procedure which has been scheduled in the next few days, Paul will be able to complete the tour as well as look into returning to make up these dates.”

At the end of the statement, it was noted that ticket holders for Saturday and Sunday’s shows will receive full refunds. “In the meantime please go to your point of purchase or local ticker provider for a full refund,” the post concluded.

Simon was set to make three appearances at Philadelphia’s Academy of Music. He completed the first show on Thursday.
