    The Boys are saying goodbye.

Series creator Eric Kripke took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce that filming on the fifth and final season of the show has wrapped. There, he shared an image of himself overlooking the infamous Seven meeting room where the group of seven supes (aka superheroes) convene.

“This is the last time I’ll ever be on this set. It’ll be torn down soon. It’s bittersweet, but my primary feeling is gratitude,” the showrunner wrote. “We have the best cast, the best crew, the most fun story to write, and something that is impossible to predict: the right timing. You wait your whole career to have maybe two of those things, if you’re lucky. We got all of them.”

Kripke went on to share further gratitude for the show’s cast, crew and fans, writing, “To #TheBoys family: thank you, I love you all. To the fans: thanks for watching, can’t wait for you to see the grand finale. That’s a wrap.”

The Boys’ stars flooded his comments with support. Jack Quaid, who plays Hughie Campbell (a key member of The Boys in the series), wrote under the post, “Love you dude. Thank you for literally everything.”

Laz Alonso, another longtime member of the on-screen Boys, wrote, “Couldn’t have been on this journey with anyone else. What a ride Krip! I can finally say I experienced lightning in a bottle!” Erin Moriarty, who plays supe Annie January/Starlight, also showed her gratitude in the comments: “Love you. Thank you. x 1000.”

In a Wednesday interview with Quaid (that was conducted on June 22), the Novocaine actor told The Hollywood Reporter he was “pretty close” to finishing filming and had “about six shooting days to go.” The Boys star, too, reflected on the “emotional” and “bittersweet” feeling of walking away from the series and his character of Hughie.

“It’s just getting more and more surreal that I’m going to have to start saying goodbye to Hughie Campbell,” he said. “It’s emotional. It’s bittersweet. This show has done everything for me. I love it. I love the people. I’m going to miss everyone so much, and it’s going to be weird [without it].

He added, “But I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished this season. I think it’s a great finale, which is a hard thing to do in TV. I’m happy that Eric Kripke got to make the ending he intended, and he did a great job. So I’m excited for you guys to see it.”

The show’s fourth season wrapped last summer in mid-July, though it was announced ahead of its premiere that the series would conclude with season five. After the news broke, Kripke told The Hollywood Reporter he always knew he “wanted to wrap it out around season five.”

“I don’t know why I like the number five so much; it’s a good round number to where you get enough,” he added. “It might have been because I was trained as a TV writer and there were five acts. It gives you enough time to get to know the characters. You can have your calm-before-the-storm moment, which is kind of what season four is for me. I say calm… you know what I mean. It’s about the characters and then you kick off into a climax.”

While it’s unclear when season five of The Boys will fly onto Amazon, the franchise itself is far from over. The Boys expanded with the spin-off series Gen V in 2023, which spotlights a group of young supes attending a superhero-only college.

Additionally, Prime Video announced in July it ordered a prequel series, entitled Vought Rising, that will center in on supes Soldier Boy and Stormfront (played by Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash, respectively).
