Initially drawn to defence robotics, the founders shifted course after recognising the complexities of that sector. They explored India’s solar industry, identifying panel cleaning as a challenge and building a successful business around it—until the COVID-19 pandemic halted operations. Pivoting swiftly, they turned to the urgent need for ventilators and launched their medical device journey.
Their motivation was rooted in gratitude. Beneficiaries of public education, they felt a responsibility to contribute to national development. “We didn’t want to leave India; we wanted to build here,” says Nikhil. And they did—with passion akin to an artist’s dedication to craft.
From IIT Kanpur to the ICU
Officially founded in 2017, Noccarc focused on creating accessible, high-performance medical devices. Unlike imported alternatives, Noccarc’s ventilators and monitors are built from ground up with Indian conditions and constraints in mind, rugged, easy to use, digitally advanced, and affordable.
Their flagship ventilator, the V730i, launched post-COVID, competes with the best globally. The startup has now supplied over 4,200 ventilators to 650+ hospitals, touching the lives of more than 90,000 patients. Prestigious institutions such as AIIMS, JIPMER, Sassoon Pune, and Apollo Jabalpur feature among their clientele.

India’s medical devices market, currently valued at $13 billion, is largely import-driven, especially for complex equipment. Ventilators alone represent a Rs 1,200 crore opportunity. Noccarc’s positioning in the value segment, where quality meets affordability, makes it ripe for rapid scale.
Their model combines device sales with recurring revenues from AMC contracts. With future-ready digital services planned, the revenue stack is both diversified and expandable. Plans are underway to enter the Gulf and African markets, with global certifications in progress.
Building Against the Grain
Noccarc’s journey wasn’t without hurdles. From a fragmented vendor ecosystem to low investor appetite for medtech hardware, every milestone was hard-earned. Regulatory delays, state procurement biases, and trust barriers in life-saving devices posed further challenges.
But what kept them going? “If you can sell it to yourself, you can sell it to others,” they say, emphasising the centrality of a robust product. Support from IIT Kanpur, particularly from Prof. Amitabha Bandyopadhyay and Prof. Abhay Karandikar, played a pivotal role in bridging the gap from innovator to entrepreneur.

The Road Ahead
Noccarc is set to launch the world’s smartest patient monitor by August 2025, followed by a turbine-based ICU cum transport ventilator and AI-powered modules. With a vision to become India’s leading critical care company, their ambitions are global, but their roots remain deeply local. Beyond profits, their impact is tangible: import substitution worth Rs 150 crore, 100+ jobs created, and small hospitals empowered with cutting-edge tools.
