Food delivery platform Swiggyhas launched a dedicated category for high protein on its app, expanding its offerings to meet the growing consumer demand for protein-enriched meals.

The new section is available in 30 cities and features more than 5 lakh dishes from over 35,000 restaurants, the company said in a press note. Each dish meets predefined nutritional criteria, including at least 15 grams of protein per serving, under 700 kilo calories, and a protein calorie ratio of at least 10%, it added.

According to the company, over 1.8 million users engaged with its ‘High Protein’ category during its pilot phase, with high adoption in cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Chandigarh.

The launch follows other recent initiatives by Swiggy aimed at expanding affordability and reach. Earlier this month, the company introduced the ‘Rs 99 Store’ in 175 cities, offering single meals at a flat price point of Rs 99, with free delivery via its Eco Saver mode. Recently, Swiggy had noted that its ‘Food on Train’ service gained traction among students travelling during the summer holidays.

Last week, Swiggy expanded its employee stock option plan (ESOP), approving a grant of 38.86 lakh shares to eligible employees of the company and its subsidiaries. Based on the closing price of the shares on BSE that day, the grant was worth about Rs 150 crore.

In May, it launched two rewards programmes for students and corporate professionals to bolster its food delivery business.
