Legendary Entertainment has promoted longtime marketing executive Di Mu to CEO of Legendary East, the studio’s China-based promotion and marketing division responsible for overseeing local campaigns for both Legendary titles and select third-party releases. Mu will report directly to Legendary CEO Josh Grode.

“Di Mu has been an invaluable member of Legendary East, playing an integral role in the execution of our local campaigns in China,” Grode said in a statement. “Her knowledge of the market, creativity, and leadership make her the ideal person to lead our next chapter in the region.”

Mu joined Legendary East in 2016 and most recently served as EVP of Marketing. With more than two decades of experience in film marketing and media strategy, she has a reputation as one of China’s more effective champions of Hollywood IP. She has led marketing efforts for 12 Legendary titles in China, with total local box office revenues exceeding $1.34 billion. Recent campaigns include Godzilla vs. Kong, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, and Dune and Dune: Part Two. In 2024, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire became the top-grossing imported film of the year in China, and in early 2025, A Minecraft Movie emerged as the country’s highest-grossing Hollywood title to date this year, as it continues its theatrical run.

“To bring some of the world’s biggest films to Chinese audiences in ways that feel authentic and resonant has been a true privilege,” Mu said. “As we move forward, I’m excited to continue bridging our cultures and expanding Legendary’s leadership through local insight and collaboration.”

Her appointment also comes as Legendary continues a solid streak of hits. In 2024, the studio surpassed $20 billion in lifetime global box office. Other positive moves for the studio include an October 2024 management buyout that left Legendary fully owned by its leadership team and private equity firm Apollo.

Upcoming releases from the studio include the Ryan Reynolds-led hybrid comedy Animal Friends, Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated Dune: Part Three, a Street Fighter adaptation, a new Monsterverse entry, and an untitled Alejandro G. Iñárritu film starring Tom Cruise. On the TV side, the company is behind Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Apple TV+), Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft (Netflix), Dune: Prophecy (HBO/Max), Drops of God (Apple TV+), Vanda (Hulu), and You Would Do It Too (Disney+, Apple TV+).
