Uber Technologies has elevated Pradeep Parameswaran to Global Head of Mobility, placing the seasoned executive at the helm of its core ride-hailing business across Asia Pacific, EMEA, and North America, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The appointment makes Parameswaran the newest member of Uber’s executive leadership team. It marks a significant bet on international experience as the company undergoes a broader restructuring of its top ranks.

“I’m incredibly excited to lead our global mobility business, overseeing strategy and operations to bring innovative and reliable transportation to millions of people in over 70 countries worldwide. From ridesharing to new modalities, we’re committed to building the future of how our cities move–making it more accessible, sustainable, and efficient for everyone,” said Parameswaran.

Parameswaran will be relocating to New York for the new role.

He succeeds Andrew Macdonald, a longtime Uber executive who has been named Chief Operating Officer. He is the first to hold the COO title at Uber since 2019. The leadership changes come as CEO Dara Khosrowshahi seeks to sharpen Uber’s focus on the fast-evolving autonomous vehicle space, amid mounting pressure from rivals such as Alphabet’s Waymo.

The elevation caps an eight-year run for Parameswaran at Uber, where he began in 2017 as Head of Central Operations for India before rising to President of India and South Asia in 2018, and later, Regional General Manager for Asia Pacific in 2020.

Recently, he served as Uber’s Global Head of Business Development, Uber for Business, and Fleets, where he steered enterprise partnerships and the company’s evolving fleet strategy.

In his new role, Parameswaran will oversee a wide portfolio that includes not just traditional ride-hailing but also micro-mobility, shuttles, high-capacity vehicles, and Uber’s consumer vehicle businesses.

Under his watch, Uber executed strategic acquisitions such as CarNextDoor in Australia and HKTaxi in Hong Kong. These moves expanded the company’s global reach while doubling down on fleet-led growth. He also helped drive Uber’s $20 million investment in Mumbai-based Everest Fleet and a landmark partnership with Tata Motors aimed at electrifying Uber’s India fleet.

A former CEO of DEN Networks and a McKinsey partner, Parameswaran’s career spans roles at Hindustan Unilever and stints in both the consumer and consulting industries. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and an engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Outside of Uber, he serves as an independent board member at FSN E-Commerce Ventures, the parent of beauty retailer Nykaa, according to his LinkedIn profile.

His elevation comes at a time of intensifying competition in Uber’s largest international market, India, where local players like Rapido and Namma Yatri are gaining traction. Uber’s India and South Asia operations are currently led by Prabhjeet Singh, under whom the company remains the country’s largest ride-hailing platform.
