Good Shot, the basketball-focused documentary feature that counts Stephen Curry as a producer, has debuted its first trailer.
Good Shot follows erstwhile Los Angeles-area basketball hero Maxwell Henderson as he deals with the pain of his past and adjusts to his eldest son moving back home.
“You keep welcoming yesterday. Yesterday can’t doing nothing for you, brother,” one individual scolds in the trailer.
Filmmaker Joris Debeij marks his feature directorial debut with the movie that he produced with Curry, Jean Mougin, Aron Phillips, Erick Peyton and Steve Wood. The film hails from RTG Features, Westbrook Studios, Religion of Sports, Unanimous Media and Iconoclast.
“Upon meeting Maxwell, it was hard to believe that no one had ever written a story about him,” Debeij says in a statement. “A living room filled with trophies, accomplishments and memories, all wrapped up in the complex history of a lifetime spent in Nickerson Gardens. This film is about what we inherit from the places we grow up in, and the rare moments we try to do things differently. Making Good Shot has been one of the most personal and meaningful experiences of my career.”
Good Shot is set to premiere at the American Black Film Festival on Saturday in Miami Beach. The project is the result of a seven-year collaboration between Debeij and the subject.
