Aaron Rodgers isn’t ready to sideline his NFL career.
The 41-year-old—who recently confirmed that he’s married—is gearing up for his 21st season of professional football after signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, a decision he said was deeply personal.
“I don’t need it for my ego,” the former New York Jets and Green Bay Packers quarterback told reporters during a June 10 press conference after his first practice with the team. “I don’t need it to keep playing. A lot of decisions that I’ve made over my career and life from strictly the ego, even if they turn out well, are always unfulfilling. But the decisions made from the soul are usually pretty fulfilling.”
Aaron went on to say he’s looking forward to working with Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin and his new teammates.
“This was a decision that was best for my soul,” he added. “And I felt like being here with Coach and the guys that got here and the opportunity here was the best for me. And I’m excited to be here.”
Aaron’s excitement over his upcoming season in the NFL comes as he settles into a new marriage. At the same press conference, he confirmed that the dark band that he’s been wearing on his left ring finger indeed signified that he’s married.
