Al Pacino is racing off to join the cast of Bobby Moresco’s Maserati: The Brothers.
Per intel sent by the producers on Thursday in Cannes, the second and “final phase” of filming will start in Rome in June, and the filmmakers are eyeing a fall debut. Maserati: The Brothers chronicles the rise of the Maserati family and their legacy in the world of automotive innovation.
Pacino will portray businessman Vincenzo Vaccaro, a champion of Maserati family and an early investor in the auto dynasty. In the biopic, produced by Andrea Iervolino, Pacino and newly-cast actors Gina La Piana and Tatiana Luter join previously announced cast of Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia, Jessica Alba, Michele Morrone and Salvatore Esposito.
Nicki Cortese and Wayne Marc Godfrey of Bright White Light are co-financing and executive producing the project.
In a statement, Iervolin said the team is “thrilled” to have Pacino join the cast. “His unparalleled talent and iconic presence bring a profound depth to our portrayal of this inspiring and emotional story. Having such a legendary figure join our already incredible cast is truly an honor.”
Added Cortese and Godfrey in a joint statement: “It is an honor to be part of the team bringing this iconic story to life. We can’t wait for audiences to experience an intimate look at the passion, ambition and resilience that fueled one of Italy’s most iconic automotive dynasties.”
Pacino is represented by CAA and RMG.
La Piana, whose credits include The Deep Ones, Stay with Me, American Soul, BloodLands and Sangre Negra, is repped by Eris Talent Agency. Luter is repped by Independent Artist Group. Her credits include Azzurrina, Rudy Valentino, Summertime, Italian Race and One More Day.
