Photographer JR gave new meaning to the phrase “pack it up” on Monday in New York.

The visionary French artist teamed with Chanel for an exclusive portrait studio inside the 18th annual Tribeca Festival artists dinner at the Odeon. The move, which brought JR back into the fold after teaming with Chanel for its Tribeca Festival artists awards program in 2019, saw a slew of A-listers confirm their participation to jump in front of his camera by sliding into an oversized wooden box, complete with packing materials to amp up the authenticity. Return to sender? Not so fast!

What’s impressive about it — beyond the creative images — is the fact that JR snapped stars like Tribeca Festival partners Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal, Blake Lively, Jerry Seinfeld, Jon Hamm, Mariska Hargitay, Lucy Liu and more inside the boxes. See all the images below.

Other guests at the VIP dinner included Jason Blum, Sofia Coppola and Thomas Mars, Christy Turlington and Ed Burns, Celine Song and Justin Kuritzkes, Cooper Hoffman, Lily James, Kyle Maclachlan, Maude Apatow, Nicole Beharie, Nia DaCosta, Laufey, Role Model, Barbara Bush, Julian Schnabel, Tommy Dorfman, Ariel Schulman, Chai Vasarhelyi, Derek Blasberg, Gus Wenner, Sean Koons, Selby Drummond and more.

The event — mounted to honor visual artists that have contributed original works to the award-winning filmmakers of the 2025 festival — shined a light on this year’s roster of contributing artists (curated by Zoe Lukov) including Alteronce Gumby, Faith Wilding, Jane Dickson, Jeffrey Meris, Lauren Halsey, Marilyn Minter, Naudline Pierre, Raúl de Nieves, Simphiwe Ndzube and Tuan Andrew Nguyen. Their contributions will be displayed at the Tribeca Festival hub at Spring Studios for the duration of the festival, which runs through June 15.
