Charli xcx Hits Back at ‘Boomer Vibe Comments’ on Her Glastonbury Set

Charli xcx is hitting back at the “boomers” critiquing her use of autotune during Saturday night’s Glastonbury set.

The British superstar started her raucous set at the U.K. musical festival with a burning Brat sign towering over her shoulder before obliging thousands of fans with album favorites like “365” and “Von dutch,” as well as old-school hits, including “party 4 u” and “I Love It.”

She had the entire festival torn in two as Charli, performing on the Other stage, clashed with headliner Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts late in the evening.

On Sunday, the singer posted to X about getting comments that her performance was less than for using autotune. “Really enjoying these boomer vibe comments on Glastonbury performance. It’s super fascinating to me.”

She continued in a series of posts: “Like the idea that singing with a deliberate autotune makes you a fraud or that not having a traditional band suddenly means you must not be a ‘real artist’ is like, the most boring take ever. yawn sorry just fell asleep.”

The “Speed Drive” singer then stated she enjoys the discourse. “[In my opinion] the best art is divisive and confrontational and often evolves into truly interesting culture rather than being like kind of ok, easily understood and sort of forgettable.”

She then thanked U.K. outlet The Guardian for the five-star review the publication gave her set.

Among some of the highlights from the set included Gracie Abrams — on Worthy Farm this weekend as a performer, also — being selected as Charli’s “Apple” girl. “I love you so much, Gracie,” she said as the U.S. singer blew kisses at the camera.

At the end of the raucous performance, where Charli sipped white wine and splashed around in on-stage rain, signage on either side of the stage thanked fans for their ongoing support. “I think you’ve all proven to me that brat is forever,” one of them read, “I don’t know who I am if it’s over.”
