Donald Trump’s recent policies have affected regional Mexican artists over the past two months. Grupo Firme, Julión Álvarez and others have had their visas revoked. Keep watching to learn more about the impact these policies have had on the regional Mexican music market.

What do you think about these policies? Let us know in the comments below.

    Narrator:

Just in the past two months, regional Mexican artists — such as Los Alegres del Barranco, Julión Álvarez and Grupo Firme — have been affected by sudden problems with their work visas. Some have been revoked by the U.S. government, while others are delayed in an “administrative process.” Overall, visa uncertainty in the U.S. under President Donald Trump’s administration has impacted multiple communities and groups of people — and artists have been no exception. This has led to the postponement and even cancellation of concerts. Such was the case for the “King of the Box Office” Julión Álvarez, who was unable to make it to his show in Texas in late May after being informed at the airport that he could not board the plane due to his visa being canceled. Meanwhile, Grupo Firme was unable to perform at La Onda Fest in Napa Valley, California, on June 1. The regional Mexican music movement — which has seen exponential growth globally in recent years — could face challenges if its artists are unable to tour in the U.S., affecting multiple areas of the Latin music business. Visit Billboard.com for the latest updates on the visa situation and its impact on regional Mexican music.
