Open Network for Digital Commerce’s (ONDC) independent director Arvind Gupta has stepped down from his post, following several high-level exits at the government-backed ecommerce network.
“Arvind Gupta, a key founding member of ONDC, has played an instrumental role in shaping ONDC and guiding its early growth. After completing a full three-year term of impactful guidance as an independent director, he has decided not to continue in his role as independent director. Gupta remains a strong advocate of ONDC’s mission and will continue to extend his support to the network,” said ONDC in a statement.
In April this year, ONDC Managing Director and CEO Thampy Koshy stepped down after a three-year tenure. Earlier this year, Shireesh Joshi, Chief Business Officer at ONDC, and President of Network Expansion, also quit the network to attend to personal matters.

Gupta is the co-founder of Digital India Foundation, a not-for-profit think tank that works on technology policy, internet governance, and cybersecurity, among others.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Gupta has over 30 years of experience in leadership, policy, and entrepreneurial roles, both in Silicon Valley and India.
After Gupta’s resignation, ONDC’s independent directors include Adil Zainulbhai, Chairman of Network18 Group; Anjali Bansal, Founder and Chairperson at Avaana Capital; and Ritesh Tiwari, Executive Director and CFO at Hindustan Unilever.
