33 Days has cast its Gavin Newsom for the drama feature focusing on the California housing crisis.
Travis Quentin Young will portray Newsom during his tenure as the mayor of San Francisco in the indie film set in 2005. Daniel and David Holechek are directing the movie that is currently in production and stars George Hu as Pastor Roger N. Huang in the story of his 33-day hunger strike outside of San Francisco City Hall.
The hunger strike reflected Huang’s effort to enact change in his neighborhood, including his push for new policy to improve the unhoused crisis in the San Francisco area.
Tony Gapastione and Brent McCorkle wrote the script for 33 Days. Hailing from Duality Films and Bravemaker Media, the project counts Daniel and David Holechek as producers, alongside Gapastione, Huang, Terry Lu and Ed Portillo.
Young’s other credits include a lead role in I Really Love My Husband, which premiered at SXSW earlier this year before it hits theaters in the summer. Director GG Hawkins’ feature focuses on a couple who embark on an adventure with an alluring nonbinary host during their Panama honeymoon.
Additionally, Young portrayed Johnny Ramone in HBO’s Vinyl and recurred on the series Devious Maids. His previous film projects include I Got the Hook-Up 2, Stillwater and The Automatic Hate.
A presumed candidate for president in 2028, Newsom has been the focus of recent headlines as the California governor pushes back against President Donald Trump‘s efforts to send the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles amid protests against raids by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
