Netflix Does Carriage Deal With TF1 in France

Netflix and TF1 announced a new carriage deal, which will see Netflix offer live broadcasts and on-demand content from the French commercial broadcaster on Netflix in France. The deal, which kicks off in Summer 2026, will include TF1’s French free-to-air channels as well as its TF1+ streaming offerings.

The deal marks a major development in Netflix’s strategy in France. Alongside high-end French dramas like Broceliande and Erica, TF1’s offerings include daily soaps (Demain nous appartient, Ici tout commence), reality-TV programming, shiny floor shows such as The Voice and live sports coverage. Adding that programming to its in-house offerings marks a further evolution for the streamer, which is moving to broaden its audience appeal as its penetration in France nears saturation levels, and matches, or tops, that of free-to-air national broadcasters.

Netflix has a similar near-saturation position across most of Europe and it will be interesting to see if the TF1/France cooperation will be a model for other territories.

“This is a first-of-its-kind partnership that plays to our strengths of giving audiences the best entertainment alongside the best discovery experience,” said Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters, announcing the agreement at the Cannes Lions festival on Wednesday. “By teaming up with France’s leading broadcaster, we will provide French consumers with even more reasons to come to Netflix every day and to stay with us for all their entertainment.”

The distribution agreement deepens the collaboration between TF1 and Netflix, which already co-produce series together, including Les Combattantes, L’Agence and Tout le bleu du ciel. Last year, they partnered to co-produce Tout Pour La Lumière (All for Light), Netflix’s first-ever daily drama for France. The family series, produced and co-financed by France’s Newen Studios, will go out on Netflix five days prior to its free-to-air broadcast on TF1 and TF1+

“I am delighted about this new partnership with Netflix, with whom we have already established strong relationships through ambitious co-productions in recent months,” said Rodolphe Belmer, CEO of TF1 Group. “As viewing habits shift toward on-demand consumption and audience fragmentation increases, this unprecedented alliance will enable our premium content to reach unparalleled audiences and unlock new reach for advertisers within an ecosystem that perfectly complements our TF1+ platform.”
