Prince Joachim of Denmark is thinking about the future.

Two years after moving to the United States in the wake of his mom Margrethe II stripping his kids Nikolai, 25, and Felix, 22, Henrik, 16, and Athena, 13, of their royal titles, the 55-year-old opened up about potential plans to return to the motherland.

“We have a desire to come home,” Joachim told TV2 in an interview translated from Danish. “But we also do not rule out the possibility of staying abroad.”

Noting how he’s in the middle of a three-year job with the Danish Embassy under the Ministry of Defense, Joachim—who shares his adult sons with ex-wife Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg and his younger children with wife Princess Marie—continued, “For now, it is on our radar, when the post here stops, we will return home.”

Joachim relocated to the U.S. with Marie and their two kids in the summer of 2023, months after then-queen Margrethe ruled all of his children will no longer be addressed as prince or princess as “necessary future-proofing of the monarchy.”
