Rapido, the bike-taxi platform backed by WestBridge and Shell Ventures, has enabled metro ticketing through its app in partnership with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).

In a press statement on Wednesday, Rapido said the move aims to offer a seamless multimodal travel experience in the Delhi-NCR region and expand last-mile connectivity in conjunction with public transit.

The integration allows commuters to book Delhi Metro tickets directly on the Rapido app using ONDC’s open protocol. Rapido will also offer other commuter-focused services, including designated pickup zones at metro stations, discounted bike taxi fares for metro users, and women-specific zones for safer access.

“We are grateful to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and ONDC for their support and vision in enabling this landmark integration,” said Aravind Sanka, Co-founder of Rapido.

The launch event in New Delhi also featured top government and corporate executives, including DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar and ONDC CEO Vibhor Jain.

The development comes shortly after Uber India launched a similar metro ticketing feature in May, allowing its users to purchase metro tickets through its app and pair them with last-mile transport options like auto-rickshaws and two-wheelers.

The Delhi Metro is a rapid transit system serving Delhi and its adjoining satellite cities—Faridabad, Gurugram, Noida, Bahadurgarh, and Ballabhgarh—in the National Capital Region of India. It is India’s largest and busiest metro rail system, with lines over 285 stations, and a total length of 395 km (245 mi). The system makes over 4,300 trips daily.

On November 18 last year, Delhi Metro recorded its highest-ever daily ridership of 7.8 million passenger journeys compared to an average daily journey of 7 million.
