Reneé Rapp is seemingly dissing her old job in her newly-released single “Leave Me Alone.”
The actress and singer, who played Leighton Murray on the HBO series The Sex Lives of College Girls before departing the series during season three, appeared to throw shade at the show with one of the song’s lyrics, which dropped on Wednesday.
“I took my sex life with me, now the show ain’t fucking / Leave me alone, bitch, I wanna have fun,” Rapp sings in the second verse.
The Hollywood Reporter reached out to HBO Max and Rapp’s reps for comment, as she has yet to confirm if she’s directly referencing the show in said lyric.
“Leave Me Alone” is her first music release since her debut album Snow Angel dropped in 2023. Her sophomore album, BITE ME, is also set to release on Aug. 1.
After first debuting Leighton during season one of The Sex Lives of College Girls in 2021, it was later announced that Rapp would be exiting the show during season three, which aired last year. When Rapp, who also starred in the Mean Girls movie musical, was asked about her departure during a February 2024 THR cover story, she shared that the decision leave “was hard for so many reasons,” recalling the difficult experience of coming to terms with her own sexuality at the same time her character was doing so in the series.
“That [show] was the most parallel experience in my life, and I remember doing that specific coming-out scene and not acting at all. At all,” she said at the time. “I was just sobbing. I see that and I don’t see a character. I’m like, ‘That’s me.’”
Rapp appeared in the first two episodes of the third season before her character Leighton made the difficult decision to transfer from Essex College to MIT because of the school’s math program, which will help her with her future career in finance.
The Sex Lives of College Girls, which also starred Amrit Kaur (Bela), Pauline Chalamet (Kimberly) and Alyah Chanelle Scott (Whitney) was canceled after season three earlier this year.
