TikTok launched a new tool on Tuesday (June 3) to help artists understand the way their music percolates through the app’s ecosystem.
TikTok for Artists will provide acts with daily information about how their songs are used and which tracks are driving the most engagement. On top of that, the dashboard furnishes artists with information about the demographic characteristics of their followers, including age, language, and self-declared gender.
“All tiers of artists will gain insights on TikTok that they can use to take their careers to a whole new level,” Tracy Gardner, TikTok’s global head of music business development, said in a statement. “We built the platform to give artists transparent access to useful, actionable data about their music and their fans, to help them better engage with the TikTok community and supercharge their careers both on and off the platform.”
In addition to analytics, TikTok also went wide with a pre-release tool that artists can use in the run-up to an album drop. When acts run these campaigns, their fans on TikTok can pre-save upcoming releases on Spotify or Apple Music to hear them the day they come out.
TikTok for Artists and the pre-save function follow in the footsteps of the “add to music app,” which was made widely available last year. The feature was designed to make it easy for TikTok users to save music they find on the platform for listening on whatever streaming service they prefer. In February, TikTok said users had already saved more than 1 billion songs.
Two months later, the popular short-form video platform started testing TikTok for Artists feature in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Indonesia.
