“When I was a kid, one of my aunts was getting married and had planned a BIG wedding. I thought her fiancé was a nice guy. When it came time for their wedding, I remember having a suit ready to go, doing the rehearsal, and going to the church. However, my aunt called off the wedding because she had never met her future mother-in-law.”
“It seems the mother-in-law tried to avoid meeting her because she was one of those unhinged mothers who thought no one was good enough for her son. So my aunt refused to get married until she met her mother-in-law and made peace with her.
The wedding didn’t happen, and all the money that had been spent on the hotel, party, and food was wasted. I remember TONS of food being delivered to my aunt’s home and my family splitting the huge pans into containers. I also remember flowers being everywhere for a few weeks; we split those as well.
The couple got married a few months later (I don’t know what happened with the mother-in-law, but I think they made peace), albeit without a huge wedding as previously planned. They’re still happily married, have a nice home, a kid, and pets.”
